Today I just need a quick & dirty solution for grass with Maya – no big deal.
But first I struggled...
However, trying to map some attributes (base color and tip color) to the fur didn’t work for me. Nutty as a fruitcake! There are three buttons in the attribute editor "Add Item", "Remove Item" and "Map Item" and of course I pressed "Add Item" and nothing happened. Next I tried "Map Item" with no result. "Remove item" doesn’t make any sense here, but I tried it also...
So how to pipe a texture in this slots? I didn’t find a hint with google and have to spot this out by myself. May you stuck at the same point and so I want to share this:
So how to pipe a texture in this slots? I didn’t find a hint with google and have to spot this out by myself. May you stuck at the same point and so I want to share this:
- Select your object with the attached fur
- Select the fur tab
- You will see a text box "Assigned Surfaces", where your geometry with the attached fur is listed (as I used a simple poly plane "pPlane1")
- And now the trick! Click on that name
- Go down and expand “Details” and choose an attribute (e.g. “Base Color”) -> open it -> open “Maps” and click “Add Item”. Now Maya should open the file browser and you can select your texture...
Does this make sense? Yes, it does. As you can attach the same fur on multiply objects you have to tell Maya on which object you want to map an attribute (so you have to select it in the attribute editor)
